SEO and Lemon Sun

Lemon Sun – Same Old Ground
Found at skreemr.com

So, I started noticing a week or two ago that I was getting some Google traffic from the search query “lemon son band.” In fact, if you type “lemon son band” into Google, kylemonson.com is the first search result (as of this writing, at least). Curious, since a search of kylemonson.com finds not a single use of the word “lemon.”

Anyway, the fourth listing in the search results is Lemon Sun’s MySpace page–turns out they’re a rock band from LA. They’ve got roughly as many MySpace friends and song plays as my own band, Mere, which endeared them to me anyway, but the music is great! “Same Old Ground” sounds like a particularly catchy Strokes song (better sung, maybe), and some of the others are cool too.

In short, I have no idea how or why I ended up in the search results for a typo of this band’s name, but I’m glad I found them. Thanks Google for the algorithmic screwup, and thanks Google Analytics for bringing said screwup to my attention.

Update: Durrrr…as Corinne pointed out today, I’m showing up in their results because “monson band” is in the search query for “lemon son band.” Strange, though, that when I search for “monson band” my site isn’t even on the first page of results. Google, you’ll always be a mystery.

Eff You, Cat!

So, now that it’s had a week to get on its feet, it’s time to announce my latest side project/hobby/timesuck, effyoucat.com. It’s basically a blog full of stories, photos, and videos of cats being dummies. As you probably know, we (meaning Corinne) have two cats, and I (meaning Kyle) hate their feline guts, in an adversarial-but-non-violent way. So I guess this is my outlet, though in all honesty, Corinne does a lot of the posting for it.

Anyway, if you ever have need to vent about your efftarded kitty, send videos, photos, stories, or even just links to effyoucat@gmail.com. I could come up with enough fodder on my own to keep the blog going for years, but where’s the fun in that?

Puts Me to Sleep (in a good way)

Band Of Horses – No One’s Gonna Love You

This is the song I hum in my head when I can’t sleep. It’s a shame to use such a beautiful song for something as pedestrian as falling asleep, but it usually works. Obviously it’s not doing its job tonight, though.
